Spring 2014 must-haves

Spring 2014 must-haves

Spring 2014 must-haves

Hey guys! I thought I'd just pop in today and share some of the items I'm crazy about for Spring. There are so many great trends going on this season and I'm really looking forward to incorporating these in my wardrobe. This list is by no means a compilation of all the trends or anything like that, it's just a roundup of some of the things I'm excited to wear this Spring (and I hope you are too).

1. Vests: As evidenced by my last post, I love a good vest. Denim, shearling, cargo, I'll rock them all. This little olive utility number from Old Navy is definitely on my wishlist this season.

2. Shift Dresses: This shape is a little outside my normal fit-and-flare comfort zone but I've been finding myself really drawn to it lately. They seem like an easy throw on in a pinch garment that will easily transition into Summer. I thought the Dorothy Perkins one above was a great color that could be very versatile.

3. Lace Up Sandals: I've been seeing variations of these little babies all over the place lately. These are definitely an of-the-moment kind of item but I'm digging the boho vibe they bring. There's all kinds of variations on this style available right now but I tend to favor those of the flat or low wedge variety. The ones pictured above are from Pacsun.

4. Tribal Jewelry- Tribal inspired pieces and prints are huge right now. They've been cropping up in so many places that even Luke (the trend blind boyfriend) noticed. I thought this Sole Society necklace was a pretty interpretation of the trend.

5. Floppy Hats- I'm kind of a hat freak, so this probably isn't actually a Spring specific thing. However, I'm definitely loving this style lately. The ASOS hat above is a great neutral color for the (hopefully) upcoming warm weather.

6. Cropped, Boxy Tops: This shape has been really popular at Anthropologie lately and I think it's a really fresh look for Spring. The F21 sweater above would be really great thrown over a dress for those still-cool days.

7. Ankle Boots: I love these year round but I'm really feeling them for Spring. I have quite a few pairs in my closet and they get a lot of wear, I think my other shoes are getting jealous. The H&M ones above are a great neutral color and a perfect heel height.

8. Denim Jackets: It's a well-documented fact that I love denim jackets (and vests, and shirts, and pants). I'm always on the lookout for new ones to add to my collection. The lighter wash of this H&M one is a fresh shade for Spring that I'm looking forward to sporting with sundresses and colored denim all season and into Summer.

I hope you guys found this little guide entertaining, if not useful. Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments!

Vest Wishes

Well, about the springiest thing I can say about this outfit is that I wore a lighter wash denim than usual. It's an unfortunate fact, but the temperatures here in NC have dropped...again. We've had more and more of those teasingly beautiful but cold days lately. Although, I'd gladly take those over more snow. Hopefully, it's just paving the way for warmer days to come. I'm so ready for Spring. I've been doing a lot of shopping lately (thank goodness for tax returns) and I've picked up quite a few warm weather pieces that I'm dying to make use of. There are few things that depress me more than seeing a lonely, unworn garment staring pitifully at me from inside my closet. So, weather, I'm begging you, please have mercy on me and my ever expanding wardrobe.

Grump in Yellow

I'm not sure how I managed to look so miserable in such a happy dress on such a lovely day. It was beautiful outside when we took this pictures, 70 degrees and sunny. I promise I wasn't as unhappy as I appear to be. Despite having a cold and the slightly irritating wind, I was having a quite pleasant day. I can't wait until it gets warm (and stays that way). They're actually calling for us to get more snow this week, Ugh! I'm so over winter. There's only so many ways to style a chunky sweater and jeans, and I feel like I've exhausted them all. I'm ready for warm weather and sandals (although, I'll probably be complaining about them come October ). So, basically, I can't be pleased. I guess I'm just a grump year round, yellow dress or no.

Stripes, Jackets, and Seasonal Affective Disorder

If you've ever read my blog (or seen me), you're probably aware of my penchant for jackets and striped dresses. These two kinds of garments make up the bulk of my wardrobe. Maybe that's a limited scope of style, but hey, I know what I like. It's the kind of pairing that I can throw on in a pinch and feel good about. I tend to find myself sartorially uninspired throughout winter and spring so it's nice to have a reliable outfit formula. I know the spring constitutes an awakening for most of the world, but for me it's always the time of year when I can't see for sneezing. That being said, I hope you guys are into stripes and jackets because that's about all I have until summer hits.

Too Cool

Spring has a way of popping in and out around here. One day it's lovely and the next it's freezing. This outfit unfortunately happened on one of the latter days. I know it looks gorgeous in the pictures, but trust me, it was frigid. I really liked this outfit but it was about ten different kinds of too cold for it. Oh well, it's not like it's the first time the weather hasn't lived up to my sartorial whims. I was cold all day, but I lived to tell the tale (and show the pictures to prove it).

Resolve

Man, it feels good to get back in the blogging game. I've found that it's surprisingly easy to fall out of the habit of doing pictures and posting but I never stop thinking about it. Even when I haven't blogged in a while I find myself considering new outfits to post and scouting locations for pictures. There will always be things that get in the way but I really enjoy blogging and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. That being said, I'm going to try to make this more of a priority in my life. I want this blog to feel like an accurate representation of who I am right now and I feel like I can't do that without posting regularly. So, here's to resolve and fresh starts! See you soon lovelies!

The Weather, Life, and Other Things That Happen

Hello again! I took a bit of a bloggy break there because life got in the way again. It has a funny way of doing that sometimes. We got another decent snow/ice storm and my schedule at work was a little more hectic than I expected. But, it's all ok. Things go on whether you're ready for them or not I suppose. Anyhow, the weather in NC is always crazy this time of year. Last week we had snow, this week it's seventy degrees and sunny. I guess weather mimics life in that way sometimes. Anyhow, I'm hoping to get some more outfit shots now that the sun is staying out later (thank you daylight savings). See you guys soon!
