Cornflowers

Dress- Target, thrifted
Belt- Thrifted
Shoes- Kmart
Zodiac Script Necklace- Urban Outfitters
Watch- Fossil
Horseshoe Ring-Urban Outfitters

The first time I wore this dress one of my friends told me that it was cornflower blue. I don't actually know what a cornflower looks like (or even if it's a real thing) but in my head it will forever resemble the little flowers on this dress all because of that comment. Isn't it funny how some things just resonate with you that way? Anyhow, I wore this last week (which will heretoforward be referred to as pre-lake or PL, not to be confused with PLL, an acronym for the hit ABC Family television show Pretty Little Liars). All of that to say that I am very pasty in these photos because they were taken before my vacation. Although, due to my strong Scots-Irish/German heritage I can't promise a marked difference in the appearance of my skin tone. In other words, I am and will always be very very white. Anyway, I'm currently enjoying the final throes of vacationland and will be rejoining the real world very shortly. I'll catch you guys in a couple days!

Until Next Time,
Cait

P.S. Tomorrow's my birthday! Woohoo! I'll be feeling 22 really soon!

Altered Shorts and Lake Houses

Denim Vest- Gap, thrifted and altered
Top- Kohl's
Shorts- Thrifted and altered
Astrological Sign Necklace- Urban Outfitters
Watch- Fossil
Ring- Urban Outfitters
Shoes- Steve Madden

Hey guys! Here's the outfit post with the altered shorts that I promised. I couldn't wait to wear them out! These pictures were actually taken the day after I finished working on them. I don't usually like to have such a long delay between taking pictures of an outfit and posting it here on the blog but I'm on vacation this week so I tried to backlog  a couple posts. My aunt invited me and a few of my cousins to stay at her house on Lake Keowee in South Carolina for the week. Right now, I'm sitting in a screened-in porch overlooking the gorgeous blue-green water. That being said, it'll probably be a little quiet around here for the next few days.

I really liked this outfit and I hope that you guys do too! Let me know in the comments if you guys have any suggestions about styling these shorts! Well, since that's all I've got for you guys right now, I'm off to dive into that water! Hopefully I'll be a little tanner the next time you guys see me (unfortunately, a little redder is more likely)!

Until Next Time,

How To Take Up A Pair Of Shorts

Hey guys! I'd like to start sharing some of my crafty projects here on the blog. I decided to begin my DIY posts with a simple tutorial for taking up a pair of shorts (this could also be used for pants, but I did shorts). So, here goes!

First, you need to determine the length you want the shorts to be. You can do this by either trying them on and marking the length or you can use another pair of shorts that you like the length of. If you choose the latter (like I did), make sure to match up the crotch seams (is there a less weird term for that?) not the waist lines. This is the best way to get an accurate finished length.

Next, you'll flip your shorts inside out and pin them up to the length you want. I used a measuring tape to make sure I got the hem even all the way around. If you're taking them up more than an inch or two, you'll probably want to trim off the excess fabric or fold the extra and do a double hem.

Your next step will be to start sewing! I just did an easy straight stitch but you can do something fancier if you're so inclined. I thought about doing an invisible hem but ultimately decided that it didn't matter so much on casual shorts like these. You could hem these up using a sewing machine or you could just do it by hand (which is what I did). I probably would've used my machine if I had it handy, simply because it's a little faster, but it's still back home right now.

If you're sewing by hand, just make sure you keep your stitches as straight and even as possible. It won't be perfect, but I kind of like the hand sewn look, I think it's a cute little detail. You can use a traditional matching thread color or you may want to do a contrasting color for a fun and unexpected detail.

Now, all that's left to do is wear and enjoy! I'll be sharing an outfit with these shorts in a few days, but here's a sneak peek just to show you guys what the shorts look like on.

I hope this was helpful! If you guys have any questions or suggestions, feel free to share in the comments.

Until Next Time,

Bows and Fake Crop Tops

Top: Thrifted, Hollister
Skirt: H&M
Sandals: The Christmas Tree Store
Earrings: Forever 21
Watch: Fossil
Cameo Ring: Antique, gift
Midi Ring: Urban Outfitters

This outfit has been one of my go-tos lately. When the weather gets hot an easy maxi skirt and tank is about all I can stand. I got this skirt when I was in New York and I've barely taken it off since. I just threw this on today to run some errands and I decided to take some pictures since I wear some version of this so often. I love the little sliver of stomach showing when I tie shirts up like this. It feels sexy but in a subtle way. I love the look of crop tops but I haven't been able to find one that I really love yet. So, in the meantime I'll just keep faking it by tying shirts this way. Fake it until you make it right?

This top is one of my favorite recent thrift finds. It's usually pretty easy to find older Hollister and American Eagle stuff in the Goodwills around my area. Most of them are tiny and empire waisted (i.e. not my size or style) but occasionally I'll get lucky and find a really cute one. While I love the high quality of these brands I probably wouldn't play full price for them in store. However, I can definitely justify the purchase at the secondhand prices! I thought the bow and racerback on this top were great and I love the fun, girly vibe it gives an outfit.

How Do You Like Meow?

Shirt- Thrifted
Shorts- Forever 21
Shoes- Mossimo via Plato's Closet
Glasses- Ray Ban
Watch- Fossil
Geometric Necklace- Forever 21
Initial Necklace- Urban Outfitters

Hi all! Sorry it's about the short break I took there. Life kind of got in the way this week, but honestly I think that's ok. Life comes first as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, this is what I wore to a little date with Luke a few days ago. We went out to see Monsters University and it was super cute! There's a theatre here in Greensboro (Brassfield Cinemas) that does discount tickets on Tuesdays so if I want to see a movie that's still in theatres, that's where/when I go. It's pretty awesome!

I'm really surprised that I haven't shown these shorts on the blog before. I basically live in them. They're ridiculously comfy, I feel like I'm wearing pajamas whenever I put them on. I picked these up on sale at Forever 21 when I was in New York City. I love all things high waisted and I couldn't resist the cat print. And, as you will see from the title of this post, I also can't resist making feline-related puns when wearing these shorts.

Happy Friday! I hope you guys have an awesome weekend lined up. I intend to spend my Saturday thrifting and reading.

Until Next Time,
Cait

The Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July! As I mentioned in an earlier post, I love holidays. So of course I jumped on the opportunity to dress up in a themed outfit. Luke and I snapped these pictures after grabbing lunch at Cookout. I was in the mood for a hot dog and Cookout fit the bill. Unfortunately, I didn't get to wear this outfit for very long because I was scheduled to work today. Oh well, I still wore something patriotic at work, just a little more sophisticated than this.

Dress- TJ Maxx
Denim Vest- thrifted and altered
Belt- thrifted
Shoes- Plato's Closet
Watch- Fossil

I thought this outfit had a fun kind of 1970's feel to it. I love looks that are a little vintage inspired, that's probably another reason why I like thrift stores so much. Speaking of thrifting, let's talk about this vest for a minute. This was originally a kid sized denim jacket from Gap. I found it at Goodwill for $3! It fit great, and because it was too short for my adult length arms, I decided that it was the perfect candidate for a little DIY surgery. I chopped off the sleeves, sewed up the arm holes and then marched out the door in my brand new vest.

Well, that's all I've got today. I'm off to an exciting night of TV and red velvet cupcakes. I hope you all had a fun and safe holiday!
Until Next Time,

OOTD

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was fairly quiet, lots of movie and cuddling time with the boy. Anyhow, I got him to snap some outfit photos for me yesterday before we grabbed dinner.

Top: h&m-thrifted
Skirt: thrifted and altered
Shoes: Forever 21 via ebay
Belt: thrifted
Hat: Christmas Tree Store
Necklace: Forever 21
Watch: Fossil

I'm super excited that almost all of this outfit was thrifted! I love it when that happens. When I bought this skirt it was almost ankle length but I loved the color and the pockets were too fun to pass up. A quick little hemming and I ended up with a super cute red mini skirt.

Can we talk about this hat for a minute? I found this for $3.99! If you don't know what The Christmas Tree Store is, you should go immediately. They have everything, literally, everything. My roommate and I went in there looking for a rug and we left with pretty much everything but a rug. Plus, everything there is super cheap! I also got a pair of sandals that look like the Dolce Vita Archer sandal. And, I only paid $4 for them! I'll probably be wearing them in an outfit post sometime in the near future. Also, I went thrifting yesterday and I did so awesome! I might do another thrift haul post sooner than planned because I found so much great stuff!

Until Next Time,
Cait
